The Singleton of Dufftown Spey Cascade

Last week I was served a whisky blind. I nosed it and tasted it for quite a while, but I could not narrow it down more than to Scotland, not Islay, Islands, Campbeltown and Lowland. Which left me with all the distilleries in Highland and Speyside…

The whisky turned out to be a new one in Norway; The Singleton of Dufftown Spey Cascade. Diageo has three different distilleries in the Singleton range; The Singleton of Glen Ord, The Singleton of Glendullan and The Singleton of Dufftown. They say this about the distillery:

The Singleton of Dufftown was built during the reign of Queen Victoria. And though the traditional methods, centuries of craft and ancient water source remain, Dufftown – the smoothest of the family of three – is on a mission to create new, great tasting Single Malt Scotch Whiskies that burst with flavour.

Dufftown is located in Speyside. The whisky has been matured in both bourbon and sherry casks and it is bottled at 40 ABV. It is available in Norway at NOK 389.

Fruity and smooth on the nose. It smells like canned peaches, licorice and hard candy with different fruit flavours. A bit metallic. Still fruity on the palate. Spicy and warm. I get honey melon, peaches, white pepper and nutmeg. The finish is plain and dry. Peanut shells and burnt caramel. It disappears quickly.

My score: nose 21 / taste 20 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 81
