Arran Distillery is located on the isle of Arran. The distillery is very young. It was opened in 1995. Their oldest whisky so far is a 18 YO released in March 2015.
One of the Ladies brought a single cask Arran bottled exclusively for Denmark to one of our meetings. We have had another Arran SC earlier this year; bourbon cask #2131.
Todays Arran was distilled 24 February 2000, matured in sherry hogshead 200/138 until bottled 15 October 2015 at 53,1 ABV. The outturn were 264 bottles and we tasted from bottle number 155.
Quite fresh on the nose. Lemon and mint. Oak and dust makes it a bit dry. Warm and rich on the palate. Here the sherry notes come through with figs and dates. The finish is mostly apricot and cocoa. A well balanced and delicate whisky. To me this was the best whisky at this meeting, in addition to Talisker 10 YO.
My score: nose 21 / taste 22 / finish 21 / balance 22 = 86
