Benriach Distillery is located in the region Speyside in Scotland. Benriach The Twelve is part of their core range. Previously I have shared my tasting notes on Benriach The Original Ten.
This is what they say about The Twelve:
To make Benriach Twelve, Benriach spirit is three cask matured for at least twelve years in sherry casks, bourbon barrels and port casks. The whisky from each cask is then expertly married together to create a smooth, sherry-rich single malt, layered with baked fruit, maple honey and cocoa, perfectly balanced with a lingering sultana and spiced mocha finish.
Benriach The Twelve is an unpeated whisky. It is available in Norway at NOK 659,90.
Heavy fruity notes on the nose. It smells like opening a box of dark chocolate confectionery filled with cherries. Rich and smooth on the palate. Plums and mango. It has a ripe fruity taste. Prune compote with custard. Dark chocolate on the finish. Some citrus, orange, makes it fresh. Some bitterness. Nutty and dry. Ginger. Well balanced and complex.
My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 22 / balance 22 = 88
