Big Peat Christmas 2015

My first meet with this years Big Peat Christmas was at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2015. Love at first sip! To me this was the best Christmas Edition I had tasted so far. At Oslo Whiskyfestival I got the chance to taste it again – still my favourite Christmas Edition. Now, tasting it at home, enjoying it in peace and quiet; still lovely!

Big Peat is a blended malt (only single malts, no grain whisky) from the independent bottler Douglas Laing containing only whiskies from Islay in Scotland. Douglas Laing reveals some of the distilleries included in the whisky: Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen.

Every Christmas Edition of Big Peat is bottled at natural cask strength. Big Peat Christmas 2015 is bottled at 53,8 ABV. It is available in Norway at NOK 790.

Fresh on the nose. Quite light. Vanilla, mint, lemon, lime, peat and smoke. Elegant! Rich and complex on the palate. Lemon and licorice at first – with peat and smoke of course. It develops with every sip. Spices, especially chili, nuts and dark chocolate.Wow! A lingering finish with citrus, peat, smoke and ashes. Licorice, dark chocolate and chili. A bit dry in the end. I love it!

My score: nose 23 / taste 23 / finish 22 / balance 22 = 90
