I visited The Golden Days in Gothenburg earlier this year. They had an impressive selection of whiskies! I was lucky enough to taste two Bruichladdich Port Charlotte; the PC5 and the PC6. Port Charlotte is the name of the heavily peated whiskies from Bruichladdich.
Today I am sharing my tasting notes on PC5. This one was distilled in 2001, matured in sherry casks and bottled in 2006 at 63,5 ABV. It is 5 YO and is named Evolution. The outturn was 6038 bottles and I tasted from bottle 4943.
Really heavy smoke on the nose. I find the nose to be very special and heavy. Leather, matches and sweaty socks. Warm and rough on the palate. Lemon, licorice, aniseed and a lot of smoke. A warm finish as well. Ashes and lemon. This was a rough one! Wow! Very cool.
My score: nose 22 / taste 22 / finish 22 / balance 22 = 88
The upcoming Wednesday I will share my tasting notes on PC6.
