Lagavulin Distillery is located on the island Islay in Scotland.
Each year Diageo, the owner of the distillery, releases the Distillers Edition. The 1991 Distillers Edition was distilled in 1991 and bottled 11 April 2007. This whisky has been matured in bourbon casks, and then given a finish for less than a year in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. It is bottled at 43 ABV.
Warm, sweet, rich smoke on the nose. Oak and brown sugar. Quite spicy with nutmeg and ginger. Rich and sweet smoke on the palate. It tastes like dark chocolate filled with creamy orange fudge. Spicy taste as well, still with nutmeg and ginger. I get ginger and Coca Cola on the finish. The peaty flavor is lingering. Very smooth. Like velvet.
