A new Irish whiskey available in Norway! I will share my tasting notes on three different whisk(e)ys from Pearse Lyons Distillery in the coming weeks.
Pearse Lyons Distillery is located at St. James in Dublin, Ireland. Founder Pearse Lyons and his wife had always dreamt on having a whiskey distillery in Dublin. In 2013 the found St. James’ Church, restored it and opened the doors to the distillery in 2017.
Their whiskies was released in Norway May 2019. Today I am tasting the 5 YO named The Original. This is what they say about it:
A blended 5 Year-Old Irish Whiskey aged in all Bourbon barrels that is a grain and malt blend. This Whiskey has malt whiskey in it that has been produced on the stills that are now in place at Pearse Lyons Distillery at St. James.
The whiskey is bottled at 43 ABV. It is Available in Norway at NOK 599,90.
Light and fresh on the nose. Cold, mint and very green. Green apples, lemon peel and lime juice. Just a hint of oak and some nail polish remover. Caramel and oak on the palate. Honey melon and yellow apples. Sweet. Milk chocolate, actually. Some leather as well. The taste was quite unexpected after nosing it. The finish is peppery and oaky at first. Then the milk chocolate appears again.
My score: nose 21 / taste 20 / finish 20 / balance 21 = 82
Thanks, Sebastian!
