Earlier this year I shared my tasting notes on two previous Single Cask Editions from Smögen Distillery in Sweden; Single Cask Edition No. 6 (read here) and No. 7 (read here).
Today it is time to taste Smögen Single Cask Edition No. 9. This whisky was distilled 2 July 2011 and bottled September 2019 which makes it 8 YO. It was matured in a heavy toasted Barrique made from Swedish oak from Småland. The outturn was 377 bottles at 59,5 ABV.
Woody and dusty on the nose. Warm spices like cardamom, nutmeg and ginger. A bit sharp like the smell of vinegar. A bit “green” and fresh as well after a while. Eucalyptus, lemon and mint. Very peaty on the palate. Ash and nut shells. It is very dry and a bit sharp. The finish is spicy and quite dry. I get woody and nutty notes.
My score: nose 22 / taste 21 / finished 20 / balance 22 = 85
