Tomatin 15 YO – blind tasting

Last week I wrote about tasting Yellow Spot 12 YO as a blind challenge at Dr. Jekylls Pub in Oslo. It was great fun! After I was done with Tommy’s blind challenge, Jerry gave me another one.

Very fruity on the nose; apples and pears. Then more fresh with mint, eucalyptus and lemon zest. The sweetness of vanilla. This reminded me of a bourbon matured whisky. Light and fresh on the palate. Very citrusy with both lemon and lime. Quite sweet. The finish had a lot of spices at first. Then it changed to perfumed water with clear oaky notes.

My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 20 / balance 20 = 82

Well, what was this? I guessed Scottish – which was correct. Then I started to eliminate the regions…and with a little help I ‘narrowed’ it down to the region Highland. It made it so much easier to guess the distillery, right? The truth is I did not guess the correct distillery. It was a nice surprise to learn this whisky was Tomatin 15 YO. I have never tasted their 15 YO before!

Tomatin 15 YO is not a part of the core range any more.

Thanks, Jerry, for the challenge!
