Balblair 2003

Gordon Stevenson, myself and John MacDonald.

I attended a Balblair tasting at Dr. Jekylls earlier this autumn. Distillery manager John MacDonald from Balblair distillery served five whiskies that afternoon. One of them was Balblair 2003 1st release (which I have reviewed in Norwegian in 2014).

The whisky has been matured only in 2nd fill bourbon casks, approximately 11 YO and bottled at 46 ABV. It is available in Norway at NOK 690.

Really fresh on the nose with mint, grapes and lemon. Fruity. I also found peanut shell and spices after a while. Rich and fresh on the palate. Salt, lemon and lime. The finish is more spicy with chilli and black pepper. Some oak and butter. A well balanced whisky, not very complex.

My score: nose 21 / taste 21 / finish 21 / balance 21 = 84
